Over the last decade, the concept of beauty has transcended makeup palettes, nails, and skincare routines. It has evolved into a powerful channel for self-expression, meaningful conversations, and driving social change. The beauty industry isn’t just responding to cultural shifts; it’s actively shaping them. From advocating for diversity to prioritizing sustainability, beauty brands are making an impact that goes far beyond the surface.
The trends redefining beauty illustrate this transformation. Beauty is now an avenue for inclusivity, sustainability, and authenticity. Whether through a campaign celebrating diversity or a zero-waste shampoo bar, industry leaders are proving that beauty products can do much more than enhance appearance – they can foster change.
Supporting beauty brands and professionals is no longer just about the products they offer. Today, the focus has shifted from perfection to authenticity. Natural beauty has taken center stage, celebrated by brands and influencers alike.
The DFW editorial team recently connected with two trailblazers in the beauty industry to explore these evolving trends. Anna Chuiun, recognized by Dallas Fashion Week as the leading licensed professional in the Nail Care Excellence category, Oksana Antoniak, a professional certified permanent makeup artist, educator, and Alba Olvera, General Manager at Good Look Corp premier Hair and Make up services in the US, Mexico, Spain and Colombia shared their insights and personal journeys. Their stories underscore the beauty industry’s ongoing transformation and its commitment to shaping a more inclusive, authentic, and sustainable world.
N.G. Can you share your journey in the beauty and nail industry?
Anna Chuiun: My career in this industry began with a genuine passion for nail health. For me, a manicure is more than just a way to enhance beauty—it’s an act of self-care, a reflection of inner hygiene, and a source of psycho-emotional balance.
I bring together expertise in bacterial and viral nail diseases, the precision of microscopy, and the principles of mindfulness. My goal isn’t limited to creating beautiful nails; I’m deeply committed to educating my clients about how their bodies work. After all, nails are often a mirror of overall health.
If I notice even the slightest sign of a health issue, I prioritize addressing it before moving forward with nail treatments. Health always comes first for me, and my clients recognize and appreciate that. They don’t just come for a manicure; they come for trust, knowledge, and a sense of inner calm. Anna
N.G. What inspires your nail art and beauty design?
Anna Chuiun: I draw my inspiration from nature’s intricate details—the micro-world of textures and cellular structures I often study under a microscope. A pattern in fungus or keratin can spark an entire design concept, evolving into something visually captivating and deeply meaningful. I also find clarity and creativity in silence, meditation, and the flow state, where the most genuine and personalized designs take shape.
For me, nail art isn’t just about following trends; it’s about evoking a feeling, an energy, even a message. Each design becomes an extension of the client’s inner world, reflecting their health, emotions, and current life chapter. My work transforms nails into an intimate canvas of self-expression.
My passion for this craft runs deeper than aesthetics. I prioritize nail health as an essential part of self-care, inner balance, and emotional well-being. With a foundation in bacterial and viral nail conditions, combined with expertise in microscopy and mindful care, I take a holistic approach.
Creating beautiful nails is just one part of the journey—I focus heavily on educating clients about how their nails can reflect overall health. If I detect even a hint of an issue, I choose not to apply any products because health always comes first. This dedication builds more than stunning designs; it fosters trust, understanding, and calm. My clients come back not just for their nails, but for the care and reassurance they know they’ll receive every time.
N.G. Are there any new trends in nail care or design that particularly excite you?
Anna Chuiun: There’s a growing movement in the nail industry, and it’s inspiring to see. Clients and nail artists alike are asking more thoughtful questions like, “What’s beneath the polish?” “Why is my nail hurting?” or even, “Could stress be impacting my nail strength?” This curiosity signals a shift toward awareness and holistic nail care. From exploring the hand skin microbiome to non-toxic sterilization methods and psychological practices, the conversation has matured into something deeper. This isn’t a fleeting trend but an evolution that intertwines science, well-being, and beauty.
Nature is my greatest muse. The intricate textures and cellular structures I observe under a microscope spark ideas that transform into visually arresting and deeply symbolic nail designs. Often, a single pattern in a fungal structure or a strand of keratin can inspire an entire concept. Creativity also strikes during moments of meditation and silence, where the “flow state” helps bring forth designs that are both personal and meaningful.
For me, nail art transcends trends. Every design aims to evoke emotion, energy, or even a story. Nails become a small yet powerful canvas, reflecting the client’s health, mindset, and life experiences during each chapter of their life. My goal is to create art that resonates with their inner world and expresses something uniquely their own.
However, my passion for nail artistry runs far deeper than aesthetics. Nail health lies at the heart of my philosophy. To me, it’s an essential element of self-care and emotional and physical balance. With a strong foundation in the science of bacterial and viral nail conditions, I’ve developed a process that prioritizes mindful, holistic care. If I notice any signs of an underlying issue, I always prioritize the client’s health, pausing product application when necessary. Because for me, caring for nails is as vital as creating beautiful designs.
Through education, I aim for more than just healthy, stunning nails—I aim to build trust, understanding, and a sense of calm. My clients don’t just come back for the designs; they return knowing that their well-being is always my priority. This approach makes nail artistry not just an aesthetic practice, but a deeply personal, healing experience for both artist and client.
N.G. Could you tell us about your experience and growth in the beauty industry?
Oksana Antoniak: My love for beauty began with a fascination for art and self-expression. Makeup, to me, is more than just enhancing facial features—it’s about revealing someone’s personality and amplifying their confidence. What started as a personal passion gradually evolved into a rewarding profession. I immersed myself in education, honed my skills through hands-on experience, collaborated on creative projects, and eventually transitioned into teaching others.
Today, as a makeup artist, I see my role as more than just applying products. It’s about helping people feel assured and aligned with their unique image, empowering them to step into the world with confidence. Whether crafting a bold look or a subtle enhancement, my work is always guided by a deep appreciation for individuality and self-expression.
N.G. Where do you find inspiration for your clients’ makeup looks?
Oksana Antoniak: Women continuously inspire me with their energy, resilience, and emotional depth. Inspiration finds me in countless ways—in the grace of fashion, the raw beauty of nature, the storytelling magic of film, and even the structured artistry of architecture. Visual art, in all its forms, has the power to spark fresh ideas. But above all, what inspires me most is the unique personality of each client. My ultimate goal is to celebrate and highlight their individuality, ensuring it shines through, never overshadowing it. Each project becomes a reflection of their essence, a tribute to their personal story.
N.G. Could you share some of the latest trends in the makeup industry?
Oksana Antoniak: The evolving trend of skincare-infused makeup has me thrilled! Combining the nourishing benefits of skincare with the versatility of makeup is a game-changer. I’m also loving how more people are celebrating natural, radiant looks that prioritize healthy, glowing skin over heavy coverage. Another movement that excites me is the push toward personalization. By tailoring makeup to suit various skin types, tones, ages, and lifestyles, this shift reflects a more conscious and inclusive beauty landscape that truly resonates with me.
I find inspiration in so many places—from the elegance of fashion to nature’s raw beauty, the captivating storytelling of cinema, and the structured creativity of architecture. Visual art, in all its forms, has this incredible ability to ignite fresh ideas. Yet, what inspires me most deeply is the individuality of each client I work with. Every woman’s story, strengths, and personality provide the foundation for something truly unique.
My mission is to celebrate and amplify that individuality. Each project I undertake becomes more than just makeup; it becomes a reflection of who they are, ensuring their essence shines brightly every step of the way.
N.G. Can you share your journey in the beauty industry?
Alba Olvera: My beauty journey began years ago, inspired by my sister, who chose to pursue a career as a makeup artist. As one of my closest friends, she encouraged me to explore new looks and trends, sparking my curiosity for the art of makeup. Through this experience, I discovered that makeup is so much more than just appearance. It’s a creative tool to enhance natural beauty, express individuality, and celebrate what makes us unique. It tells a story, boosts confidence, and empowers us to truly shine. Watching its transformative power up close is what made me fall in love with the world of makeup.
N.G. Are there any timeless looks or techniques that you think will never go out of style?
Alba Olvera: Soft glam is a timeless and universally loved style. Enhancing natural beauty with neutral tones, radiant skin, and subtle definition, it allows your features to shine without feeling overdone. At Good Look Corp, where I’m proud to serve as General Manager, we’ve found that clients from the USA, Mexico, Spain, and Colombia consistently choose this flattering and versatile look. It’s a style that highlights the best version of everyone, making it a favorite across different cultures and preferences.
N.G. What styles or looks do you think will dominate the makeup and hair scene next season?
Alba Olvera: We’re seeing “Toasty Glam” take the spotlight as a must-try beauty trend, defined by warm, bronzy tones, sun-kissed skin, and rich hues like copper, terracotta, and rust. Hairstyles are leaning towards soft volume and natural textures, creating an effortlessly chic look. For makeup, it’s all about buttery, radiant skin that glows from within. You can also expect playful touches like colorful lashes, feathered brows, and blurred lips that add a fresh pop of creativity. The essence of “Toasty Glam”? Effortless elegance infused with wearable artistry.
